The people of Limerick and surrounding towns and counties turned out in force to see the Limerick Tunnel before it is immersed beneath the River Shannon in September. The NRA and DirectRoute expected a few thousand people to visit the site to view the tunnel; however, with almost ten thousand people visiting the project on the day, it exceeded even our wildest expectations. At one point in the afternoon, I looked towards the Clonmacken link road and saw an unbroken procession of cars almost two miles long winding its way towards the casting basin.... more
